Our Africa Cultural Heritage & Preservation Programme works with traditional authorities, local communities, governments, academic institutions, museums, cultural organizations, and international partners to ensure that Africa’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage is safeguarded and passed on to future generations. We recognize that preserving cultural heritage is not only about protecting historical sites and artifacts, but also about sustaining the living traditions, customs, oral histories, languages, music, dance, indigenous technologies, and cultural practices that define African societies.

Our Programme Areas
Heritage Documentation and Digital Preservation
We document oral histories, traditional knowledge, indigenous languages, folklore, cultural practices, historical records, photographs, and audiovisual materials to create lasting digital archives that preserve Africa’s cultural memory.
Indigenous Knowledge Preservation
WIACT promotes the identification, documentation, and transmission of indigenous knowledge related to traditional governance, agriculture, environmental management, architecture, medicine, craftsmanship, conflict resolution, and community development.
